Clitunno Sources

The source of the little river sacred to the God Jupiter is composed by several springs forming a little lake among poplars and willows, celebrated for his beauty by Properzio, Silio Italico, Virgilio and Plinio the young.

On a small hill near the Springs lays the church of S. Salvatore (ex temple of Clitunno), built between the IV and V century with materials borrowed from ancient pagan tombs. The frescoes (VII century) are one of the first examples of the umbrian christian art.
